Off the Record

Drop-in

What is it?

For many young people the drop-in is the first point of access to our services. Drop-ins are times when our doors are open for people to come in without having to make an appointment.

We offer a friendly welcome and know how to support young people to find a way forward with any problem they are facing.

We have up-to-date resources, information and the skill to get the help the young person wants.

Sometimes people simply need someone outside of their situation to listen to them and to hear about obstacles they are experiencing. Other times (and more often) they ask for something to happen in order to make a change.

What happens in the drop-in?

Often this is the hardest step to take. We recognise that young people coming into Off the Record may be feeling quite nervous and anxious about what might happen. We try to make it as easy as we can.

Once you are in through the door (that’s the tricky bit over with) you will be greeted by a worker who will ask how we can help.  Often people say something like, “I would like to talk to someone”. You will be offered a drink (tea, coffee, squash andwater are usually all on offer) and someone will sit down with you in a quiet space…and listen.
